2012 SPECIAL WORKSHOPS ... Explore new filmmaking techniques and meet traveling artists! More coming soon!

Saturdays March 24 & 31 – STOP MOTION EXQUISITE CORPSE ANIMATION WORKSHOP! – 1 – 4 PM

Exquisite corpse is a method by which a collection of words or images is collectively assembled. Each collaborator adds to a composition in sequence, either by following a rule or by being allowed to see the end of what the previous person contributed.

During this two Saturday course, the class will create a collaborative animated work, using stop motion. Each student will be given the first and last frame of their animation, and then be able to create whatever they like within these two frames. Students should be prepared to shoot the first day, so bring anything you need with you to class. Supplies will be provided, so you don't have to bring anything, other than a desire to animate! Instructor: Nancy Jean Tucker $75/60 EPFC members. Class limited to 6 students.

Saturdays May 5 & 12 - SELF PORTRAIT WORKSHOP – 1 – 4 PM
A self-portrait is a study of the self in all her layered complexities and simplicities. The possibilities are endless, realistic to abstract, ranging from an internal investigation of one's fears to an external one of the physical body to how a color palette feels to interviewing your favorite person or studying your pet or your neighborhood street corner. You don't need to travel far, only deep. In our 2-days we will practice listening and looking. We will watch work from various artists including: Andy Warhol, Ben Rivers, Shirley Clarke, Bruce Conner, Su Friedrich, Vanalyne Green, Peggy Ahwesh, Gina Kim, Carolee Schneemann, Jonathan Cauette. We will use Flip cameras. Our videos will use available sound and you will author a DVD by the end of Day 2. With courage may we explore ourselves and create masterful work.  Instructor: Kim Strouse $75/$60 EPFC members. Class limited to 6 students.

SATURDAY, JUNE 9 – EXPERIMENTAL LOOP-BUILDING WORKSHOP – 1 – 4 PM
This workshop aims to provide a framework for exploring working with loops and multiple projectors. The focus of the class will be on learning-through-working, and participants should come with an open mind and an eagerness to get their hands dirty. You will get hands on experience cutting and splicing, projecting, and, naturally, building loops. You are encouraged to bring pre-existing material you would like to experiment with, but don't worry if you don't have anything, because we will also work with found footage and direct animation. We'll be working primarily with 16mm, but Super 8 will also be covered. Together we will create an evolving loop performance/installation; invite your friends to see the chaos after the workshop is over! Limited to 6 students. Instructor: Rick Bahto. $50/$40 EPFC members. Class limited to 6 students.
